Procrastinate the right way

note

You should not be afraid to remain with yourself for a prolonged time. As a matter of fact you should learn to enjoy it. The best ideas are born while you are bored. Social media doom scrolling is the enemy for creativity.

It will become increasingly more clear that AI is really about one thing and it is allowing humans to be more creative (if done right). Given that AI can boost your productivity and your efficiency it will only become natural that you have more time. What will you do with this free time?

You have countless options, from scrolling to playing games, to watching TV etc. More people like to keep themselves busy, without doing any actual, meaningful work. If you have the opportunity to not do anything, simply choose to think. Meditate, write, draw, express your creativity in some form. It is a good starting point to really understand what you love and do it. It will never really feel like work. That's such a platitude, but it is so true. Now that I reflect on my past experiences and even early childhood, my passion for certain things was so distinct. I was not passionate about music, nor about drawing, neither being a doctor, lawyer or anything else. But I did have a certain passion to understand and create businesses from an early age. It is so obvious, that I am lost why I didn't see it earlier in the past few years. Even though my line of work is close to this, it is not really that close to what I really want. Having this free time to really think, to not really do anything, but just sit down with your thoughts and think is really crucial to steering your ship in the right direction. Doom scrolling and easily stolen attention is a recipe for mediocre life. So do not be afraid to procrastinate, just do it rightly.

And if you really want to keep your mind occupied, a good idea is to improve your capacity for focus, instead of reducing it. One way you can do that is to actually learn new things, expand your perspectives through knowledge. Reading here is essential, great books, essays, articles whatever you get your hands on - read. It is better to start reading whatever you find until you really start to love reading, then you can start to filter what you read. But creating the habit is important. I've not seen a single successful person who is not either curious or doesn't read voraciously. Of course the goal is to be always creating and utilizing. But you can't have new ideas and creativity unless you feed your brain with new ideas & thoughts. But reading alone even though it is required is not sufficient. You have to also think & analyze. And implement the learnings somehow in your life (make it apply to your situation).

Be exposed to ideas, learn, write & have fun while doing so. But be addicted to reading / creating - and be afraid of scrolling mindlessly. Be active, play with ideas, view them from different perspectives and start modeling them in a way that is fun to you. Make them tools to achieve your dreams. Tie them to a goal and make this goal a purpose.
