The hidden price
There is a good quote that says "You can have anything, but not everything".
We all have 24 hours in the day. Those 24 hours are allocated differently - depending on much sleep you need, do you exercise, do you have a job, do you emphasize on your social life or perhaps you are a working student. But those 24 hours really could determine how your life progresses over the next years, if you chose to belive so. Usually in a computer system the input dictates the output to a larger extent. In life, it could be similar. So, if you input most of those 24 hours in something productive for society, the society might reward you. The reverse is also true.
But how do you even chose on what to dedicate those 24 hours. Do you sleep enough? That's a good starting point, most scientist agree (if not all), that sleep is really important. But not just any sleep, but good quality sleep. (Deep sleep / REM etc.) Given that, most people rarely agree on something, the one thing they agree should be viewed as really important, right?
OK, you have good quality sleep, so now what?
Well, next thing is to do something productive, most people find meaning through their work. You might say "yuck, work", well, be happy, at least you have work, soon this might not be so abundant even though we might want it to be.
Alright, if not work then what? Well, many people take pleasure in writing, singing, drawing, in other words creating something. Given our early history, we humans value highly the creation step, no matter if it is drawings in the caves or tools that we use to hunt animals. Our evolution edge is dicated largely by our brains, which were developed better than other animals due to our innovative tools / creations.
So it should be apparent that in order to feel good, you should create.
What to create and how to create it and why to create it something entirely different. But the hidden price of scrolling through social media and mindlessly moving through the day is that you are not in sync with the very idea that led to our evolution.
